I Think of You 1. I’ll Think Of You Pete Malinverni, piano |

Reviews: Jody Sandhaus' first album, WINTER MOON, held out hope for a bright future for this singer with the passionate delivery, and this current undertaking does nothing to dim this prospect. The play list is peppered with bright tunes that highlight Sandhaus' fine sense of timing. You can hear this feel for the pace and for the beat on such cuts as "Too Close for Comfort" and "Please Be Kind." …an enchanting, entertaining journey through some exceptional songs... a voice that is subtle, sensitive, and projects clearly a strong emotional tone. 53 minutes of wonderful jazz by a young songbird who knows her way with jazz vocals and shares that way with the audience! ...the clear beauty of her version, "I'll Think of You," accompanied by the gifted jazz pianist Pete Malinverni. Impressive range and crystal clear intonation...hints of future greatness ..sparkling "It's A Most Unusual Day"... an archly malevolent treatment of "Small Day Tomorrow" that is a knockout. Finally, in Jody Sandhaus we get refreshing directness, delivered via a lovely soprano instrument which brims over with warmth and intelligence. No artifice, no multiple tracking, no reason to doubt that singer and trio are in the same studio, on the same page. "I Like It Here" is a more than welcome Alec Wilder song, just as rarely heard verses for "Comfort" and "Changed" are stunning revelations...a marvelous singer from the technical (intonation, phrasing, enunciation) and emotional (lyric interpretation, dramatic skills) standpoints, backed by an exemplary trio. "For Heaven's Sake ..." don't let this one slip past you. Yesterday's mail delivered a real gem. I love your CD. I really haven't stopped listening to it yet. The tunes you selected for this recording are some of my favorites, especially "Small Day Tomorrow" and "For Heaven's Sake" . Pete's trio compliments perfectly... a very special and satisfying experience. Now on her second album, Jody Sandhaus is making clear that hers is a voice that wraps itself around a tune to obtain its essence and earn the rapt attention of her audience...effective delivery and effortless phrasing...her voice has a crystalline quality...she obviously enjoys singing. A fine vocal offering by New York 's Jody Sandhaus, certainly a singer deserving much more attention. A tight cohesive quartet, not just a singer with trio accompaniment. One obscure Bob Dorough tune, "Small Day Tomorrow" , hits a bulls eye. I sure do have a weakness for a good singer, especially one like Sandhaus, who has given us an album as fine as this one is. |
